BMW 750iL Highline cars come equipped with every imaginable safety and suspension feature that BMW had available at the time. This includes:
EDC (Electronic Damper Control):
EDC allows the driver to set the firmness of the suspension dynamically, while driving. If you’d like a sportier feel with less chassis roll, a firmer stance and a more direct steering response, set it to “Sport”. If you prefer a smoother ride, better road harshness absorption and generally better comfort, set it to “Komfort” (in German).
SLS (Self-Leveling Suspension)
SLS allows the car to be loaded with passengers and/or cargo and still maintain it handling and comfort characteristics. It achieves that by using a hydraulic system to inflate “bags” in the rear suspension, allowing the car to rise up to normal ride height, even if it’s carrying a large amount of load. This allows the suspension geometry to remain unchanged and therefore traction and suspension travel/dampening to remain unchanged.
ASC, ASC+T (All-Season Control [+Traction])
Depending on the year, Highline E32s may come with ASC or ASC+T. The “+T” version is an evolution of the ASC system and provides better traction in various road conditions. The point of the whole system is to maintain vehicle stability and control even in harsh road conditions such as rain, ice, or snow. The system modulates the power sent to the driving (rear) wheels and thereby prevents them from slipping and losing traction. Some versions of the system may also actively apply the brakes in order to control the vehicle when slipping is detected.
