Most (but not all!) E32 Highlines have a cellular phone built into the rear armrest. The types of phones vary, but most of them are GSM-based and still work nowadays! They take in a credit-card-sized SIM card in a GSM module in the trunk. Some also have a front phone for the driver, including a microphone for hands-free conversations. The front phone is usually mounted on the passenger side of the front center console.
Besides the phone, the rear armrest also houses radio controls, as well as front passenger seat control (so the “boss” can move that seat forward in case he/she needs more legroom… in case the already abundant legroom in the long-wheelbase E32 is not enough. Finally, the same armrest also features a button for the rear sunshade, so that the rear passengers can ride in comfort even in the sunniest of days. Of course, the rear doors are also equipped with (manual) sunshades, which provide privacy and protection from the sun.
